About

Ashley

Ashley believes some of the most meaningful work in therapy happens when we begin reconnecting with the parts of ourselves that have been buried beneath stress, expectations, difficult relationships, painful experiences, or years spent simply trying to get through the day. Her work is especially meaningful for women navigating questions of identity, self-worth, boundaries, relationships, body image, codependency, and the many roles they carry.

‍

Ashley’s own path to becoming a therapist has shaped the way she works. She brings professional training alongside a grounded understanding of how complicated growth can be. Rather than expecting clients to arrive knowing exactly what they need, she creates space to explore, experiment, become curious, and gradually reconnect with what feels authentic.

Ashley’s connection to BirdWellness began long before the practice existed. She and co-founder Brian Birdwell first worked together at a local Coney Island restaurant nearly 20 years ago before heading in different directions and building careers of their own. After reconnecting years later, it quickly became clear that Ashley’s creative, holistic approach would be a natural addition to the BirdWellness team.

‍

Outside of therapy, Ashley is happily married and a mother of four. Her experiences with family, relationships, personal growth, and balancing different roles contribute to the grounded and compassionate perspective she brings to her work.

How I Work

My Approach

I don’t believe therapy always has to mean sitting still and talking about what’s wrong. Sometimes we understand ourselves differently when we pay attention to what our bodies are telling us, move, create, reflect, or try something outside of our usual patterns. My approach is holistic, experiential, and collaborative, blending traditional talk therapy with mindfulness, movement, body awareness, creative expression, and practical strategies for everyday life. I especially enjoy working with women who have spent so much time caring for others or meeting expectations that they’ve lost touch with their own needs. Together, we can explore old patterns, strengthen boundaries and self-compassion, and create more room for a life that feels authentic and meaningful.

✦ Reconnect With Yourself
We’ll look beyond who you think you’re supposed to be and make room to understand what you actually need, value, and want.

‍

✦ Listen to More Than Your Thoughts
Emotions often show up in the body before we have words for them. We can use movement, mindfulness, and body awareness to notice what may otherwise be easy to miss.

‍

✦ Challenge Old Patterns
We’ll explore beliefs, boundaries, relationship dynamics, and survival strategies that may have helped you once but no longer fit the life you want.

‍

✦ Find What Works for You
There is no single “right” way to do therapy. We’ll combine conversation, creativity, reflection, practical tools, and experiential work in ways that fit you.
