Jimmy Vuong
Jimmy Vuong, LMSW, brings creativity, warmth, and a down-to-earth presence to therapy. He works with people navigating anxiety, depression, self-doubt, relationships, and questions of identity, with a particular interest in college students and young adults finding their footing.
About
Jimmy
Jimmy brings his personality into his work: expressive, curious, and comfortable with individuality. He values honest conversation and getting to know the person beyond the concerns that brought them to therapy. His experience at the University of Michigan’s student counseling center helped shape his work with college students navigating academic pressure, changing relationships, independence, and uncertainty about the future. He enjoys helping people explore who they are and what they want their lives to look like.
As a Vietnamese therapist, Jimmy brings his own cultural perspective alongside an openness to learning about yours. He welcomes Asian clients and people exploring how culture, family expectations, identity, and belonging intersect in their lives. Outside the therapy room, Jimmy is naturally creative and enjoys art, self-expression, fitness, and exploring new interests—qualities that often find their way into the curiosity and flexibility he brings to his work. His connection to BirdWellness is personal as well: he and co-founder Brian Birdwell became friends and fraternity brothers while attending Saginaw Valley State University.
"There’s room here for your personality, your culture, your creativity, and the parts of yourself you’re still getting to know."
My Approach
I want therapy to feel like a conversation where you can be yourself. We’ll talk about what’s happening in your life, notice patterns that may be keeping you stuck, and identify changes that matter to you. I draw from approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and solution-focused therapy. We can work with practical strategies, reflection, or creative expression, depending on what helps you engage. You don’t need to be artistic to work with me. I’m interested in your strengths as much as your struggles. Together, we’ll build on what already works and explore new ways to respond to the things that feel difficult.
✦ Bring Your Whole Self
Your personality, background, and interests have a place in therapy. You don’t need to edit yourself to fit an expectation.
✦ Stay Curious
We can explore thoughts, feelings, and patterns with curiosity, including the parts that are confusing or difficult to explain.
✦ Make Room for Expression
Conversation is one way to understand yourself. When it fits, creativity can offer another way to explore and express what you’re experiencing.
✦ Let Your Values Lead
We’ll focus on goals that reflect what matters to you and translate them into steps you can take in everyday life.
